Excerpts from Press Coverage for HAW/the STUDIO:

Cinema
…German actors are trained in a very arrogant way for the sole purpose of playing on stage. Then all of a sudden actors stand stupidly in front of a camera and do not know how to move, how to control one’s voice and emotions. Fellow actors are surprised at how many of their scenes end up on the cutting room floor and are rightfuly angry at having to practice their profession after the prinicple of learning-by-doing…

Blickpunkt Film
…The workshop also conveys techniques to help the actors prepare for the requirements on the set…Petra Gallasch points out that film actors need to be mentored and promoted. This being the reason why Germany has to build institutions to promote actors following the American examples…

Filmecho/Filmwoche
…Even film stars go to school regularly…“Training is an indispensable lifelong process and this is often not quite clear to a lot of stage actors”, says  actress Ariane. “A lot of times the schools convey the feeling that one is a finished actor”…Earlier HAW/the STUDIO Founder Petra Gallasch has put it similarly: “Movie star Diane Keaton is over 50 years old but still goes to acting class every week”.

Berliner Zeitung
… At HAW/The STUDIO acting trainees learn how to devote themselves to the camera…The training includes little theory, but a lot of practical training, just the typical American learning -by- doing, and everything takes place in English…Actors who have worked in their profession for a long time very often say that they have learned a lot at HAW/the STUDIO…The eye of the camera does not miss one false move, it does not forgive the slightest overacting. Camera acting therefore is a central point in the training of the Hollywood Acting Workshop…The STUDIO Workshop wants to encourage the potential of each individual participant following the positive American example…

Handelsblatt
…No wonder – acting training in the USA almost always includes special training for  film and TV whereas in Germany the newcomers are pretty much left alone…HAW/the STUDIO’s Motto: “What you always wanted to know about film acting but never dared to ask…“None of our participants has gone back to Germany and has become a star overnight,” says Petra Gallasch, who is convinced that most people are not aware of how much time, work and tears stars like Dustin Hoffman or Robert Redford had to invest into their careers before they became successful.  But Petra Gallasch says self-confident:  “HAW/The STUDIO participants have a lot of advantages towards their competitors in Germany: more self-confidence, specialized know-how and an intensive knowledge of the most important and most professional entertainment market in the world.”

…Whoever wants to be successful in the film business needs to know for example how to present oneself precisely in front of the camera, how to snatch a role at an audition and how to promote oneself professionally. Even the language is important: if you don’t understand the English instructions at the set you do not stand a chance in the international film market…

Allegra
…The no-nonsense schedule: daily 10 to 12 hours of lessons in seven film acting subjects…

…The business with self-produced soaps is blooming on all German TV channels. To be fit, the young German TV stars go back to school: in Hollywood, they learn the best tricks of the trade…
